Adhila Mayet
Head of Project Development
Adhila was appointed as Senior Project Developer in 2017 and then Head of Project Development in 2021.
Adhila’s strength in project development is based on a robust eleven years’ experience in the renewable energy and broader energy efficiency and management industries. Adhila cut her teeth in the renewable space as a project manager for solar PV, solar hot water, and heat pump installation at a local SME, Kayema. Here her responsibilities included designing and overseeing the implementation of large-scale solar water heating and solar photovoltaic projects. Adhila then spent two years with NRG, a US based IPP, as a project developer where she led their renewable and hybrid energy project developments, structured power purchase agreements and project managed entire development, operation, and maintenance cycles for these operations. Adhila also played a consulting role at NRG, conducting detailed energy audits and creating energy management strategies for over thirty industrial, commercial, hospitality and agri-processing entities.
Adhila began her journey with Pele Energy Group as a senior project developer, ultimately progressing to head of the project development team over the past seven years. She has also played a role in the investment and funding group as a transaction co-ordinator. Adhila and her team are responsible for developing Greenfield Projects, including landowner engagements, permitting, feasibility studies, acquiring pre-developed sites and negotiating strong commercial agreements with sellers. Adhila is also responsible for driving the identification and selection of off-taker procurement programmes, compiling competitive bids and closing once awarded.
Adhila’s involvement at Pele Energy Group spans across many projects, in particular the Sonvanger solar power plant, where she is responsible for bringing the project to financial close - Pele Green Energy project’s first project that was brought from developed, won and taken to close by Pele Green Energy alone.
Adhila holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Witwatersrand and is proudly affiliated with SAPVIA. She is also a mentor for the WEConnect programme, an Allan Gray Fellow and serves as the director of the Copperton Community Trust SPV. Adhila has also had the honour of being nominated for the Energy Shapeshifter Award by SANEA in 2022.
